H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of ALECSO, and H.E. Dr. Hayat Guermazi, Tunisian Minister of Culture, chaired, on August 19, 2022, a coordination meeting at the seat of the Culture Ministry in Tunis, to follow up on preparations for the Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition, to be organized on the sidelines of the 18th Francophonie Summit, scheduled to be held in Djerba, Tunisia, on November 19-20, 2022.
The Director-General expressed, during this meeting, his appreciation of the significant level of cooperation between ALECSO and the Republic of Tunisia, and highly valued the invitation extended to ALECSO by H.E. President Kaïs Saïed, President of the Republic of Tunisia, to participate in the Francophonie Summit. He indicated that the Organization stands ready to cooperate for the success of this important event, and thanked the Tunisian Culture Minister for providing this opportunity to hold this joint coordination meeting.

The Director-General stressed the importance of the Arabic calligraphy, and highlighted the Organization’s efforts to preserve this art, through the range of activities it has organized in this regard, and also through coordinating the joint Arab file, which involved 15 Arab States led by Saudi Arabia, for the inscription of the Arabic Calligraphy on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
For her part, the Tunisian Minister expressed her thanks to the Director-General and his accompanying delegation for accepting this invitation and for the fruitful cooperation in preparing for this significant cultural event. She called for sparing no effort to make sure this event will be commensurate with the importance of the Francophonie Summit, and with the standing of Tunisia and of ALECSO.
During this meeting, a presentation was made on the ongoing logistical preparations for the exhibition and other accompanying activities (dialogue seminars, practical workshops…). The Director-General indicated, in this regard, that ALECSO will provide all the needed support for the success of this cultural event.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to pursue coordination between the two parties.
