The Norwegian Council for Tolerance and Peace called for the necessity of holding the leaders of the Israeli occupation accountable for its deliberate crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Joan Abu Hantash, Deputy Secretary-General, said that the Israeli occupation army committed violations against defenseless civilians in Gaza, which international humanitarian law considers crimes against humanity.
Abu Hantash indicated that Israel violated all international conventions and covenants, the First Protocol annexed to the Fourth Geneva Conventions, which affirmed the impermissibility of the occupying state transferring some of its civilian population to the territories it occupies, or deporting or transferring all or some of the population of the occupied territories within or outside the scope of those territories.
She pointed out that the collective punishments carried out by the occupying state constitute a clear violation of Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibited collective punishments and all measures of intimidation, terrorism, and measures of retaliation against protected persons and their property.
Abu Hantash noted that the widespread acts of destruction practiced by Israel violate Article 53 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the occupying state from destroying any private, immovable or movable property related to individuals, groups, the state, or public authorities.
In conclusion, the Council called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and work to stop all military actions launched by the Israeli occupation forces against Gaza.
